Job description

Nationally certified Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) who deliver primary and/or specialty care across various healthcare settings. They collaborate with healthcare teams according to their certification and licensure, focusing on health promotion, disease prevention, and managing both acute and chronic health issues. They also contribute to education by instructing, leading, and developing educational programs.

Cleveland Clinic Emergency Department Transition to Practice Program

We are accepting applications for this program, which assigns selected candidates to our East or West submarket locations. Applications are open to licensed and certified applicants, or those who will be certified and licensed by mid-July. The program targets new graduates and experienced providers transitioning into emergency medicine. It is a full-time, benefits-eligible position lasting approximately 9-12 months, with the goal of placement into permanent emergency medicine roles upon successful completion, though this is not guaranteed. Participants will undergo advanced didactic and clinical training, paired 1:1 with Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians for mentorship. The environment promotes collaborative learning during this critical transition. Compensation is reduced during training.

  • Experienced Physician Assistants seeking to switch to Emergency Medicine
  • New Graduate Family Nurse Practitioners with 2-5 years of emergency nursing experience

FNPs must take the ENP certification exam after the program for full-time ED opportunities. Candidates should specify a preference for East or West submarket in their cover letter, or indicate openness to both. All candidates will spend time at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and Pediatric EDs. Locations include:

  • East Submarket: Euclid, Hillcrest, South Pointe, Twinsburg, Marymount
  • West Submarket: Fairview, Avon, Medina, Lutheran
Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive medical histories and physical exams, order and interpret tests, and develop diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Perform routine diagnostic procedures, interpret results, and perform specialized procedures as credentialed.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications within license scope and hospital privileges.
  • Educate patients, participate in rounds, collaborate with team members, and refer to specialists as needed.
  • Ensure continuity of care, participate in quality monitoring, facilitate discharge planning, and support professional development.
  • Engage in research, serve as clinical preceptor, and perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Certifications

APRN candidates: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years; graduate of an accredited APRN program. For neonatal care, a Master's is required at hire.

PA candidates: Graduate of an ARC-approved PA program with a master's degree or higher, recognized by state licensing.

Licensing & Certifications
  • NP: Current licensure, national certification, BLS, ACLS/PALS/NRP as applicable, and physician arrangements.
  • PA: NCCPA certification, state license, DEA license, BLS, ACLS/PALS/NRP/ATLS as applicable, and physician supervision agreement.
Additional Requirements
  • Relevant clinical experience preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including walking, standing, manual dexterity, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Adherence to PPE protocols.
