Job summary

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Masters prepared NP or PA for the Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine team in Minnesota. The role supports pre-operative, intra-operative, and postoperative patient care, with emphasis on hip preservation.

Responsibilities include operating room assistance, collaboration with surgeons and allied staff, and potential research involvement. No after-hours call is currently planned but may be in the future.

Qualifications

• Masters prepared nurse practitioner or PA with required certifications.
• Current Minnesota RN license and FNP/ACNP/ANP or PA certification.
• DEA registration eligibility may be required.
• BLS completed; ACLS preferred.
• 1–2 years clinical/surgical experience preferred; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Assist assigned staff in all patient care aspects in clinical setting with focus on hip preservation.
• Provide patient care in operating room and during surgical assistance.
• Independent calendars as experience grows; coverage of other orthopedic subspecialties.
• Collaborate with surgeons, residents, athletic trainers and other staff.
• Opportunities for research publications depending on service needs; no routine after-hours call presently.

Responsibilities

The department of Orthopedic Surgery is ranked amongst the top Orthopedic Departments nationwide. This unique position in Sports Medicine allows the NP or PA to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary care team including surgeons, residents/fellows, athletic trainers/physical therapists, and in-patient as well as outpatient allied health staff. The NP or PA will assist the assigned staff consultant in all aspects of patient care in the clinical setting, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and postoperative care, with a focus on hip preservation. Patient care in the operating room and surgical assisting is expected. Independent calendars as experience is gained. Opportunities to cover other orthopedic subspecialties and work with 40+ Advanced Practice Providers within the orthopedic surgery department. There is potential to participate in research and publications depending on the assigned service and the needs of the Department. At this time, no after-hours call is required, or planned, but may be instituted at a future date.

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Must have current Minnesota RN license and certification as an FNP, ACNP or ANP,
Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
Candidate must be eligible for DEA registration.

Completion of BLS course required and ACLS preferred. One to two years of clinical and/or surgical experience preferred, but not required. Consultant specific training will be provided

Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and assume responsibility for inpatient/outpatient interaction. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interactions with patients, family members, and colleagues in multiple disciplines. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential.
