Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant supports outpatient clinic patients within the organization, working collaboratively with residents, fellows, attendings, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators. The role includes primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization, teaching of residents and medical students, staff development, patient education, and discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide care based on accepted medical practice guidelines and deliver physical, psychosocial, and educational services to patients.
  • Utilize the approved medical practices process for all patient care.
  • Engage in patient and family education, staff development, and community outreach.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members: clinical staff, PCCs, nurses, and discharge coordinators.
  • Assist in emergency stabilization of critically ill patients.
  • Perform teaching of residents, medical students, and other health professionals.
  • Adapt communication style to meet patient needs and privacy requirements.
  • Complete related duties as required.
Education
  • • Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • • Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Medicine, Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved PA Training Program.
Work Experience
  • • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant: None required.
  • • Preferred: 3 years of related working experience.
Certifications
  • • Nurse Practitioner: Current state licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN); ANCC or AANPCP certification for Family or Adult/Geriatric or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner; BCLS/ACLS certification; eligibility for prescriptive authority as per state board.
  • • Physician Assistant: State license, NCCPA Certified; BCLS/ACLS certification; eligibility for prescriptive authority as per state board.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer skills for data entry and retrieval.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications and role‑specific software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between facilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call).
Physical and Environmental Demands

Medium work: ability to lift 20–50 pounds occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, or light loads constantly; stand for prolonged periods; stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands; exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and hazardous medications or waste.
