Job summary

The Oncology Institute in Tucson, AZ is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our oncology team. In this role you will examine patients, manage cancer treatment plans, order tests, and coordinate care with physicians and the health team.

We offer a base salary with semi‑annual performance bonuses and a comprehensive benefits package. Oncology experience is preferred but not required; national certification and active licensure are required.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in nursing.
• Current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
• Current and unrestricted license to practice.
• Oncology experience preferred but not required.
• National Certification required upon employment (Nurse Practitioners).

Responsibilities

• Document patient information, visit history, lab follow‑ups, and consults in the EMR.
• Conduct in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, construct medical histories, perform exams.
• Directly perform or order diagnostic studies and interpret results.
• Develop and implement long and short‑range treatment plans.
• Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsy.
• Counsel patients and families regarding preventive care and medications.
• Write orders to adjust medications with physician countersignature.
• Update charts and notify physicians of changes in condition.
• Maintain hospital privileges to assist with calls.

Education

Master's degree in nursing

Certification from NP/PA program

Current and unrestricted license to practice

Base Salary with Opportunity for Semi-Annual Performance Bonuses

Advanced Practice Provider Role

Performs physical examinations and treats common complications of cancer treatment, counsels patients and families and monitors patient progress. Works in collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patient information, visit history, refer outs, lab follow‑up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.
• Conduct in-depth interviews with patients and/or family, construct comprehensive medical histories, perform initial and periodic physical examinations and explore patients' interpretation of health needs. Identify and treat patients' diseases.
• Directly perform or order appropriate diagnostic studies and interpret finished results.
• Develop and implement long and short‑range treatment plans.
• Perform procedures such as bone marrow biopsy.
• Instruct and counsel patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
• Write orders to increase, decrease or change medication, subject to checking and countersigning by physician.
• Identify and record pertinent progress of patients, update and summarize charts, change orders when appropriate and notify the responsible physician of changes in the patient's condition.
• Will need hospital privileges to assist with call.

• Current and unrestricted license to practice.
• Oncology experience preferred but not required.
