Job summary

A leading medical center in Northern New Jersey is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for the Cardiac Surgery and Critical Care Medicine team in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit. The role involves managing patient care, performing procedures, and collaborating with staff to ensure high-quality care. The ideal candidate will have a valid NP or PA license, national certification, and experience in critical care settings.

Job description

A leading medical center in Northern New Jersey is seeking an experienced and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to support the Cardiac Surgery and Critical Care Medicine team in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT-ICU).

About the Opportunity:

  • Start Date: July 2025
  • Schedule: 3 to 4 days per week, including some weekends and holidays
  • Hours: 6am to 7:30pm (12.5 shifts)
  • Shift Hours: 6:00 AM - 7:30 PM
  • Call: No on-call required
Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily care for cardiothoracic surgery patients in the CT-ICU
  • Conduct daily progress notes, clinical rounds, treatment planning, order entry, discharges, and summaries
  • Perform bedside procedures including: chest tube removals; epicardial pacing wire removals; brachial arterial line placements; and, central lines and arterial lines (with validated competency)
  • Collaborate with other APPs and unit staff to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care
  • Document all care accurately using the EPIC electronic medical record system

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in the state of New Jersey
  • National certification appropriate to the role (PMHNP-BC, FNP-BC, PA-C, etc.)
  • Demonstrated procedural competency in line placements and postoperative ICU management
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in Cardiac Surgery, Critical Care, and/or a CT-ICU setting
  • Proficiency with EPIC EMR
