Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA)

THIS IS FOR A FUTURE OPENING

STGi is seeking qualified candidates for this position in connection with an active Request for Proposals (RFP). Hiring for this role is contingent upon STGi's selection as the successful awardee.

STGi is currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The NP or PA will provide professional clinical services under the direction of the Primary Care Provider, offering urgent and emergent evaluation, comprehensive integrated primary health care, preventive health, prescribing medications, ordering laboratory and diagnostic studies, and patient and family education. The role includes leadership as a role model and mentor, client advocacy, and participation in professional activities at local and state level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides primary and preventive medical care within the scope of practice and CPT codes.
  • Delivers medical patient care per standards of nationally recognized credentialing organizations.
  • Works within state, Joint Commission, and VA standards.
  • Collaborates closely with the Patient Aliened Care Team and extended support staff.
  • Emphasizes wellness, prevention, and early detection.
  • Supervises support staff in patient care delivery.
  • Maintains universal precautions and infection control practices.
  • Ensures smooth patient flow per VA access standards and triage protocol.
  • Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assists during respiratory and cardiac arrest procedures.
  • Investigates health problems by gathering and assessing historical information.
  • Conducts physical examinations appropriate to the patient’s history.
  • Diagnoses health problems from history, physical exam, and diagnostic tests.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans, including health education, pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatments.
  • Prescribes medications as appropriate.
  • Evaluates treatment outcomes and modifies plans to achieve goals.
  • Makes referrals for specialty evaluation or treatment.
  • Coordinates health care services for primary care patients, including walk‑in patients.
  • Provides a model for clinical practice within the clinic.
  • Operates therapeutic and emergency equipment (monitor, EKG, oxygen, AED, suction).
  • Obtains and records patient history and findings per VA standards.
  • Performs initial and periodic physical examinations within scope.
  • Orders diagnostic tests based on complaints and findings.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pharmacology.
  • Prescribes and administers medication within privilege limits.
  • Recommends and follows up on laboratory tests and specialized diagnostics.
  • Documents patient information in VISTA and VAMC electronic records.
  • Maintains the VISTA clinic reminder tracking system.
  • Closes patient charts within 24‑72 hours of encounter and places RTC orders promptly.
  • Assists in scheduling patients per VA access standards and medical necessity.
  • Keeps patients informed of their care plan, lab, and test results.
  • Provides health education materials, resources, and education to patients and families.
  • Assists the Registered Nurse to ensure complete and accurate documentation.
  • Complies with all federal, state, local, Joint Commission, OSHA, VA, and subcontractor regulations.
  • Participates in performance improvement programs between VAMC and STGi.
  • Ensures required reports and clinical information are completed accurately and on time.
  • Participates in staff development programs.
  • Performs other clinical duties within privilege limits.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information and supports patient privacy, rights, and safety.
  • Aids in management and coordination of day‑to‑day activity at the clinic.
  • Performs other work‑related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Minimum 2 years clinical experience as an APRN/PA in outpatient family or internal medicine; 3‑5 years preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted DEA license and scope of practice/collaborative agreement with a state‑licensed physician.
  • Current, unrestricted state license with compliance to all state regulations.
  • BLS/CPR certification prior to work (American Heart Association or Military Training Network).
  • Prescriptive authority per state rules.
  • Ability to set realistic, measurable education goals for patients.
  • Ability to develop and deliver individualized and group counseling focusing on disease prevention and health maintenance.
  • Experience with safe opioid prescribing for chronic musculoskeletal pain.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong computer skills.
  • Exceptional diplomatic communication skills and handling of difficult customer situations.
  • Detail‑oriented and capable of multitasking.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with completion of a university‑based Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Relevant certification from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body; licensed as an NP in a state with a master’s degree accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE and current certification.
  • For Physician Assistants: Bachelor’s degree from a CAHEA‑certified PA training program or equivalent; total of at least five years of approved academic training and healthcare experience; NCCPA certification and required prescriptive authority.
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Moderate physical activity; handling average‑weight objects up to 25 pounds; standing/walking >4 hours per day.
  • Typical interior/office work environment.
  • Requirement to respond to medical emergencies, possibly requiring a fast walk or jog to assist.
