Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health seeks an experienced Nurse Practitioner for the ICU Physician team in Somerville, NJ. The role focuses on high-acuity adult critical care in a multidisciplinary ICU, collaborating with intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, and fellows to deliver direct patient care.

Requirements include a Master’s in Nursing (ACNP/AGACNP), NJ APRN license, RN license in NJ, BLS/ACLS, and NJ CDS/DEA licensure. CCRN preferred and rotating day shifts with some night coverage may apply.

Qualifications

• Must have a Master's Degree in Nursing with ACNP or AGACNP focus.
• CCRN preferred.
• Licensed as an Advance Practice Nurse in NJ with NJ State Board of Nursing.
• Licensed RN in NJ.
• Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support certifications.
• NJ CDS and DEA Licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform physical exams and collect data; order and interpret labs.
• Order diagnostic tests and imaging; initiate treatment plans.
• Prescribe medications and other therapies; manage ICU consults with attending physicians.
• Coordinate patient care with ICU team and other health professionals.

Job Summary

The Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role within the critical care team

The primary responsibility is to manage high-acuity adult patients in a multidisciplinary critical care setting

The ICU team provides comprehensive critical care in collaboration with various consulting specialists

The APP works closely with critical care intensivists, ICU hospitalists, residents, fellows, and other APPs to provide direct patient care in the ICU

APP responsibilities include performing physical exams, collecting and documenting data, performing approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and consultations, and prescribing appropriate interventions and medications

Additionally, the APP may manage ICU consults in collaboration with attending physicians

The APP's role in critical care is to oversee and ensure that patients receive best-practice care

Essential Functions

Obtains and records patient history

Performs physical and medical screening examinations

Completes diagnostic and therapeutic studies

Orders diagnostic laboratory tests, radiological studies or other therapies as appropriate

Establishes diagnostic decision-making and initiates a treatment plan, which may include ordering medications, additional therapeutic modalities, etc

Coordinates patient care with other members of the health care team

Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management

Instructs and counsels patients regarding mental and physical health, referring patients to appropriate specialists/resources

Completes charting in a thorough and timely manner

Adequately manages patient flow in the ICU

Performs procedures as allowed by state law and under the direction of the supervising or collaborating physician

Works within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards

Actively participates in department staff meetings and risk management education

Completes required courses, i,e, HIPAA, EMTALA and other CME/CEU requirements

Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to academic lectures and / or quality improvement projects

Job Requirements

For a Nurse Practitioner: Must have Masters Degree in Nursing from Accredited Program with focus on Acute Care must be either ACNP or AGACNP,

CCRN preferred, Registered Advanced Practice Nurse License from NJ State Board of Nursing, Licensed Registered Nurse in state of New Jersey, Prior work experience as a professional nurse, Basic life support and advanced life support certifications, NJ CDS and DEA Licensure

Additional Requirements

Must be Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS) certified within 90 days of hire

Must be Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) certified within 1 year of hire

Job Scheduling Requirements

Rotating shifts days/nights and nights only available

Willingness to accommodate scheduling needs including working extended hours, overnights, weekends, and holidays

Knowledge and Skills

Recommended high acuity/adult critical care experience

Experience with ultrasound IV and point of care ultrasound is desired

Medical and broad based clinical critical care knowledge, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent time management skills, and ability to effectively and successfully work with all ICU and hospital employees
