Job description

Job Overview:

The Advanced Practice Nurse or Clinical Nurse Specialist (APN or CNS) provides an advanced level of nursing care based upon graduate education and broad experience with behavioral health patients and their families. The APN/CNS practices in collaboration with the physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals. The APN/CNS practices and conforms to the guidelines set by the NJ Board of Nursing (NJSA 13:37) for the regulation of nurses in advance practice as Nurse Practitioners/Clinical Nurse Specialists. The APN is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures and methods referring questionable situations to the physician. The NP provides behavioral health care through assessment, diagnosis, treatment, clinical judgment, and management to restore, maintain, and improve the health status of patients. Must be psych NP. Three years of nurse practitioner experience is required.

Job Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing required.
  • Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license; CDS and DEA and BLS.
  • CPR certification.
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center required.
  • Three to five years of work experience as Nurse Practitioner.
  • Licensed by the New Jersey Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse and certified by the NJBH as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in advance practice with prescription authority required.

Scheduling Requirement:

  • Including weekend and evening requirements:
  • M-F 8-4, one to two days per week adjusted hours of 10-6.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs evaluation, treatment, counseling, and educational functions.
  • Billing for patient services based on CMS and NJ State Board Regulations.
  • Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate care for patients.
  • Develops plan of care for patients in coordination with the multidisciplinary team and completes appropriate reports to primary care physicians and family.
  • Documents and maintains patient records of services provided according to facility and nursing standards.
  • Establishes a collaborative relationship with other medical providers.
  • Interviews, instructs, and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Issues psychotropic prescriptions to patients based on Federal & State Regulations.
  • Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Reviews all lab data and documents.
  • Performs and obtains a completed medical history and physical data on patients with appropriate documentation and findings.
  • Responsible for coordinating nursing and training programs on compliance for policies such as HIPAA, OSHA, Code of Conduct.
  • Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice.
  • Reviews and audits charts routinely.
