Job description

Cleveland Clinic's Heart, Vascular & Thoracic Institute is currently seeking an experienced Full-time Nurse Practitioner (Family Certified) for its Congenital Heart Surgery department at Main Campus. This position encompasses both pediatrics and adults. The schedule will be days with weekend and holiday coverage.

Nationally certified Advanced Practice Provider who provides primary and/or specialty care in various healthcare settings. Functions in collaboration with the healthcare team according to certification and licensure. Practice emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic health problems. Responsible for disseminating knowledge through instructing, leading, and developing educational programs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Conduct thorough medical histories, perform physical examinations, initiate lab, radiology, or other tests, and analyze data to establish health status and develop diagnoses and treatment plans.
  2. Work collaboratively with physicians.
  3. Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures to identify pathophysiologic processes.
  4. Perform routine procedures such as injections, suturing, wound care, and assist in managing complex illnesses, including assisting in surgeries and responding to life-threatening situations.
  5. Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority.
  6. Perform specialized procedures like biopsies, blood draws, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis, and paracentesis, following credentialing approvals.
  7. Educate patients on their diseases, treatments, and preventive health topics.
  8. Participate in medical team rounds and collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure quality care.
  9. Refers patients to specialists when necessary and ensures continuity of care.
  10. Assist in data analysis and participate in quality monitoring.
  11. Facilitate discharge planning, length of stay, and compliance with standards. May serve as a clinical preceptor and onboarding faculty.
  12. Demonstrate high ethical standards, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  13. Take call and work some off-shift hours, including weekends, holidays, and possibly nights. Some privileges for procedures may be required.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Certifications:
  • APRN: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years; graduate of an accredited ARPN program; licensed as RN and APRN; national certification by an accredited organization; BLS required; ACLS or PALS may be required.
  • PA: Graduate of an ARC-approved Physician Assistant Program; Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies; certification by NCCPA; licensed by Ohio Medical Board; BLS required; ACLS or PALS may be required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid Ohio Driver's license and proof of insurance for homecare/hospice roles.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, communication skills, and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience preferred: 2 years in advanced practice nursing or related clinical experience.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and exposure to communicable diseases.
