Overview
The Per Diem Nurse Practitioner ER Trauma performs the role utilizing the patient-centered, coordinated care model demonstrated through competencies such as leadership, direct clinical practice, consultation/collaboration, coaching/guiding, research, and ethical decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Participates in decisions affecting APRN practice and opportunities to advance nursing practice within the institution.
- Seeks opportunities to promote HackensackUMC APRN practice recognition locally, nationally, and internationally through conferences, publications, and presentations.
- Provides excellence in patient experience by modeling Service Excellence Standards.
- Communicates a shared vision with the departments of patient care and specialty practice.
- Participates in APRN interviewing, credentialing, and peer review processes.
- Engages in at least one professional specialty organization.
- Supports the nursing blueprint by providing evidence of practice outcomes.
- Supports institutional pillars through systems management, change management, and scholarly practices.
- Ensures compliance with HackensackUMC nursing protocols, standards of care, and quality indicators.
Evidence-based Practice (direct clinical practice)
- Applies evidence and value-based practices to improve patient and family outcomes.
- Evaluates patient/family transition of care for resource utilization, cost, quality, and self-management promotion.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise with advanced assessment and leadership skills.
- Evaluates protocols and standards for best practice translation into clinical care.
- Provides culturally appropriate health education.
- Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and staff RN patient rounding to facilitate patient-centered care.
- Supports organizational strategies through annual professional goals.
- Develops evidence-based practice protocols and standards of care.
- Aligns practices with organizational pillars.
- Analyzes practice patterns and recommends evidence-based improvements.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex patient evaluation and intervention outcomes.
- Identifies practice gaps and initiates evidence-based practice changes.
- Participates in policy and procedure updates based on current evidence.
Consultation/Collaboration
- Acts as a resource for clinical, process, and system improvements.
- Participates in meetings, work-groups, and committees representing APRNs.
- Builds credibility with medical staff as nursing experts.
- Collaborates with medical leaders to support nursing-led protocols and system improvements.
- Mentors APRN and graduate students.
- Serves as a clinical resource for evidence-based practice.
- Identifies educational needs and collaborates on teaching materials.
Coaching/Guiding
- Coaches staff on evidence-based and value-based care.
- Participates in staff RN rounding and quality improvement recommendations.
- Coordinates and participates in nursing educational programs.
- Creates a shared vision for patient and family-centered care.
- Promotes a collaborative work environment aligned with organizational values.
Research
- Utilizes and disseminates research findings in practice, education, or consultation.
- Seeks innovation and brings new clinical knowledge into practice.

Ethical Decision-Making
