Job summary

Unity Health Care in Washington, DC, seeks a Nurse Practitioner (DOC) for a PRN role in a correctional healthcare setting. You will provide culturally competent, high-quality care, perform assessments, order tests, and manage preventive and chronic care under supervision of Medical/Specialty Directors.

The position requires DC NP licensure, CDS/DEA registrations, and board certification or eligibility, with on-call rotations and possible evening/weekend coverage.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
• Current Nurse Practitioner license to practice in Washington, DC.
• Current DC CDS registration.
• Current DEA registration in Washington, DC.
• Board-certified or board-eligible as an NP in the applicable specialty.
• Must obtain required board certification within one year of hire, if applicable.
• Ability to participate in regularly scheduled on-call rotations.
• Evening and weekend sessions may be needed for patient coverage.
• Comply with professional licensing requirements, regulatory standards, and Unity Health Care policies.
• Correctional healthcare experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a correctional healthcare setting.
• Conduct patient assessments, physical examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
• Prescribe medications and treatments within scope of practice.
• Provide preventive care and chronic disease management.
• Refer patients to specialists and other services as appropriate.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, behavioral health staff, and other care team members.
• Participate in quality improvement, population health, and patient safety initiatives.
• Maintain licenses, certifications, clinical privileges, and professional standards.
• Participate in on-call, evening, or weekend coverage as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
