Job summary

The Indian Health Service is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to deliver compassionate primary care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities, focusing on health and well-being in locations where care is most needed.

You will analyze patient histories, diagnose acute and chronic conditions, develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and educate patients for effective self-management, while adhering to professional guidelines and standards.

Qualifications

• Graduate or higher-level degree in nursing or an advanced practice specialty from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Current, active, unrestricted RN license; advanced practice nursing positions require a specialty license appropriate to the clinical area.
• At least one year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to the next lower federal grade level (e.g., GS-10).
• Successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
• Must meet U.S. citizenship, Selective Service registration (for applicable candidates), and federal E-Veri fy eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret patient histories, symptoms, physical findings, and diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
• Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines.
• Diagnose or treat acute health care problems such as illnesses, infections, and injuries.
• Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, dosage, and frequencies.
• Educate patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to individual circumstances.
