Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital seeks a Pediatric/Family Nurse Practitioner to provide advanced clinical care in the Ambulatory Chronic Pain Clinic and Pediatric Headache Program. This 40-hour flex role covers leaves of absence, Monday through Friday, in two interdisciplinary ambulatory clinics serving children and adolescents with complex pain and headache disorders.

Job description

The Pediatric/Family Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides advanced clinical care in the Ambulatory Chronic Pain Clinic and Pediatric Headache Program, two interdisciplinary specialty clinics serving children and adolescents with complex pain and headache disorders. This flex position is a 40-hour, Monday-Friday role designed to provide coverage for leaves of absence (LOAs) within the Pain Clinics.
The NP is responsible for comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, patient/family education, and ongoing care coordination. The ideal candidate has strong pediatric clinical experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary ambulatory care model.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive evaluation and management of pediatric patients in the chronic pain and headache clinics.
• Obtain detailed health histories and perform physical assessments.
• Formulate differential diagnoses and develop evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Communicate complex diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and care plans clearly and compassionately to patients and families.
• Monitor patient progress and modify plans of care as clinically indicated.
• Coordinate care with physicians, psychologists, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, and other team members.
• Support continuity of care through documentation, follow-up, and communication with referring providers and community-based clinicians.
• Provide education and counseling to patients and families related to chronic pain, headache disorders, symptom management, and treatment expectations.
• Participate in ambulatory clinic workflows and support coverage needs across both programs.
• Working 40 hours per week: days Monday through Friday

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Master of science in Nursing

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of pediatric clinical experience required
• Would consider new graduate NPs with applicable nursing experience
• Strong knowledge of pediatric assessment, diagnosis, and care planning
• Experience caring for children and adolescents with complex or chronic medical conditions preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and family-centered care skills
• Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary ambulatory setting

Licensure/Certifications

• Current MA Nurse Practitioner License (PNP or FNP required)

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
