The basic purpose of nursing is to provide safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. Additionally, nursing will provide professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times. The Standards of Practice set forth by the professional nursing associations will provide guidelines for the competent, safe and professional practice.

Basic Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for managing health problems and coordinating age appropriate health care to the patient. Part of the innovative care team that will meet the individual needs of the patients and their family. Functions independently and under a collaborative agreement with the supervising physician and receives administrative supervision from a clinical departmental director. Practices in accordance with hospital rules and regulations and the APNs professional body's standard of care providing evidence-based age appropriate care in an age appropriate care model. Included in their scope of practice is performing histories, examinations, ordering appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tests and procedures along with prescribing pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Manages chronic patient conditions and is instrumental in providing patient/family education. Active as a respected member of the healthcare team designed to meet the individual needs of the patient and their family. Takes key responsibility as a patient advocate and ensuring referral of the patient when necessary. Affects direct patient care according to the nurse practice act of the State of Texas and Texoma Medical Center Standards of Nursing Care policies and procedures.
