Job Summary: This role involves delivering care through a collaborative healthcare model, including physicians, advanced practice nurses, nursing staff, patients, families, and other providers, focusing on holistic patient care. The Nurse Practitioner will exercise clinical leadership through practice, consultation, education, research, and professional development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assess, manage, prescribe, and evaluate treatments for common illnesses according to standards of practice.
  • Consult or refer to primary care physicians or other professionals as needed.
  • Perform evaluations and provide ongoing care for adult outpatient services.
  • In collaboration with physicians, perform psychiatric evaluations and ongoing psychopharmacology for mental health patients.
  • Assess patients' physical, emotional, and social needs; develop therapeutic relationships; establish diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Maintain timely and complete documentation in medical records, including billing and credentialing activities.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development, and assess data to meet age-specific needs.
  • Seek ongoing education to stay current with best practices.
  • Educate patients to promote health maintenance.
  • Provide guidance and support, utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Promote mental health advocacy, ethical decision-making, and participate in quality improvement activities, including regulatory compliance. Provide coverage for psychiatric inpatient units and consults as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (if licensed after 1999).
  • ANCC Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health-NP.
  • Current Federal DEA and State Controlled Substance License.
  • Connecticut RN/APRN Licensure.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health setting.

  • Ability to distinguish normal vs. abnormal findings, assess severity, and plan appropriate care.
  • Ability to establish therapeutic relationships and communicate effectively.
  • Leadership and clinical decision-making skills.
