Qualifications

• Completion of a master’s, postmaster’s, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education or National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
• Licensing prior to August 1, 1995, master’s degree in nursing is preferred.
• Current licensure by the applicable state board of nursing for advanced practice.
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances.
• Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (NP-C) or (FNP-BC).

Responsibilities

• Assess patients in designated care settings and treat injuries and illnesses.
• Obtain thorough medical histories and conduct examinations as appropriate.
• Prescribe medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized.
• Maintain complete and detailed records of patients’ health care plans.
• Collaborate with providers and refer patients to specialists when needed.
