Overview

At Houston Methodist, the Nurse Practitioner AC PRN position involves functioning as a licensed registered nurse and care provider, delivering comprehensive patient care including diagnosis, treatment, and consultation to promote health. The role may operate in inpatient and outpatient settings, adhering to the nurse practice act of Texas and collaborating within a treatment team. The NP-AC PRN demonstrates compassionate communication with patients, physicians, and the healthcare team, providing education on preventative care and treatments, conducting physicals, ordering tests, and prescribing medications as appropriate. The position impacts direct patient care aligned with Houston Methodist's Professional Practice Model and policies.

    • Conduct health assessments, develop care plans, and perform procedures within licensure and privileges.

    Qualifications
    Education
    • Master's Degree in Nursing or higher.
    Work Experience
    • Minimum of two years' clinical experience as a registered nurse, advanced practice nurse, or nurse practitioner.
    Licenses and Certifications
    Required Licenses and Certifications
    • RN - Texas State Licensure or Compact License within 60 days.
    • APRN - Texas Board of Nursing.
    • Recognized certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (e.g., ANCC, AANP).
    • BLS certification.
    • ACLS certification (not required for certain departments).
    • Prescriptive Authority from Texas Board of Nursing.
    • DEA Narcotics License within 6 months.
    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Proficiency in skills, competencies, and ongoing assessments.
    • Effective communication skills in English.
    • Therapeutic communication and collaboration abilities.
    • Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and time management skills.

    Work Attire

    On-Call

    • Required to be on-call during emergencies.

    Travel

    • May require travel within Houston; travel outside Houston is not typically required.
