POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working in collaboration with the director of clinical medicine and quality improvement, the Nurse Practitioner 2 will be responsible for providing age specific, developmentally appropriate clinical services to students and other members of the university community in an integrated health and wellness model. As a student affairs professional at Case Western Reserve University, the person in this position will be expected to contribute to building a welcoming community, focus on the well-being of others, and encourage curiosity among those we serve.
Essential Functions
- Provide direct care to patients in University Health and Counseling Services clinical settings including primary care, women's health, allergy, travel, immunization, campus outreach and occupational health. Identify and respond effectively to the unique needs of each population. Provide care in a manner that enhances patient satisfaction and respects all aspects of an individual patient's identity. Assess patient needs, provide appropriate interventions and referrals, document all clinical activities promptly in the electronic health record, and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions. (70%)
- Responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of one or more ongoing clinical programs, including but not limited to: evidence-based clinical algorithms for treatment of common and/or high-need college health concerns, risk mitigation strategies for infectious diseases, and occupational health. Design, implement, and evaluate clinical workflows for processes including but not limited to occupational health (immunization, pre-exposure screening, post-exposure care, monitoring programs), order/result reconciliation, and patient access. (20%)
Nonessential Functions
Collaborate with peers and other members of the health care team in clinical conferences addressing cases including acute and chronic medical conditions, eating disorders, attention disorders, and anxiety and depression management. (5%)Participate in wellness, health promotion and outreach programming to promote campus wide health and wellness initiatives. (5%)Perform other duties as assigned. (
CONTACTS
Department: Continuous contact with the director of clinical medicine and the director of clinical operations. Continuous contact with professional and support staff of university health and counseling services for scheduling, clinical consultation and collaborative work in an integrated model. Regular contact with collaborating physician.
University: Occasional contact with university colleagues to refer students to university resources such as disability resources, educational support services, academic deans, athletics, etc.
External: Moderate contact with external peers to manage student referrals to outside community health care providers such as University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic Foundation and Metro Health.
Students: Continuous contact with students to provide direct health services to students presenting with a range of health and wellness needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct administrative supervisory responsibility.
Qualifications
Experience: 6 or more years of related experience as a nurse practitioner. Prefer primary care experience, experience with adolescent and young adult populations, and/or experience within a university setting.
Education/Licensing: Has a Master's degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice with certification from a national certifying agency as an adult or family nurse practitioner. Holds a current State of Ohio license as Registered Nurse and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

- Possess clinical advanced practice nursing experience in direct patient care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including: respect for all aspects of an individual's identity, ability to resolve conflict, clear personal and professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
- Experience using an electronic health record to document all clinical encounters using appropriate medical terminology. Maintain accurate and complete records; document patient condition, active problems, treatments, medication and outcomes promptly.
- Adhere to all safety policies and procedures of the university, and keep up with new trends in nursing safety and compliance with national standards for safe care.
- Dependability and good work habits. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time appropriately.
- Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
- Knowledge of and adherence to relevant laws and professional standards regarding professional ethics and privacy.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
- Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical health and counseling clinic environment on a university campus. The employee may be exposed to blood and body fluids. Personal protective equipment will be provided. Full-time professional staff are exempt from overtime. University health and counseling services professional staff will participate in crisis response, outreach or programming outside of the usual health center schedule on occasion. This position may be required to participate in an on-call schedule. Staff may be required to adjust their clinical and administrative assignments, as needed, depending on departmental, divisional, and university needs. This may involve flexing to cover other clinical roles due to staff absence, changes in the model of care, or other reasons determined by the assistant vice president of university health and counseling services.
