Your Role on the Team
We are looking for a highly competent, independent yet team‑oriented Nurse Practitioner I to manage inpatient care across various surgical divisions, including Trauma and Acute Care Surgery.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage inpatient surgical patients, including performing physical examinations and gathering medical histories.
- Coordinate care planning, scheduling of operations and interventional procedures, and discharge processes.
- Participate in inpatient sign‑outs at the beginning and end of shifts, and follow up with General Surgery teams, residents, and attending physicians.
- Conduct triage of phone calls and review critical laboratory results in collaboration with medical staff.
- Ensure timely and compliant documentation, including progress notes and discharge summaries.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of Windows and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Quest, Access, Power Point, and Outlook).
- Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional privileges prior to hire.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the program and UCI Health System.
- Diplomatic and flexible interpersonal skills when interacting with physicians, nurses, administrators, emergency and law enforcement officers.
- Proficient customer‑service skills appropriate to the job.
- Clear communication of medical information both in person and over the telephone.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of medical reports, laboratory data, and progress notes.
- Skill to maintain a work pace appropriate to workload demands.
- Possess the essential skills, knowledge, and abilities for assigned duties.
- Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures.
- Adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies related to Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Vietnamese.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
- Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
- Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
- Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
- NP National Board Certification (AGACNP‑BC or ACNPC‑AG) as required by state regulations.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Within six months of hire, American College of Surgeons Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification.
