Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) to deliver ambulatory care within correctional facilities in Fort Lauderdale and Miami. This PRN role requires professional nursing expertise across urgent and routine visits, with supervision by a physician as needed.

The successful candidate will provide education to inmates, healthcare staff, and correctional officers, document encounters, and follow safety and security procedures. PRN schedule is 5–6 hours per facility.

Qualifications

• APRN licensure in the state of employment.
• Active CPR certification.
• Graduate of an accredited college/university with current APRN certification.

Responsibilities

• Work within a correctional facility.
• Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identify inmate/patient health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction.
• Provide medical care using regimens approved by a physician.
• Educate inmate/patient, healthcare, and correctional staff.
• Document all healthcare contacts.
• Adhere to safety and security policies; participate in disaster drills; follow regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
• Assign tasks to team members as needed.
• Adhere to Universal Precautions and infection control practices.
• Attend training and meetings as required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The APRN utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus. The APRN works with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment and provides basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

• Assigns tasks to team members as needed.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited college / university with current certification / licensure as an APRN in the state of employment.
• Must hold the required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for their specific mid-level provider credentials.
• Maintain an active CPR certification.
