Job summary

VitalCore Health Strategies is actively seeking a Nurse Practitioner to serve in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, providing ambulatory care under physician supervision in a correctional setting. The APRN will respond to emergencies, assess inmate health, and initiate treatment plans while guiding staff and ensuring safety protocols.

The role requires an active APRN license in the state and CPR certification, with a PRN schedule of 1 day per week and 5–6 hours per facility.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited college / university with current APRN licensure in the state of employment.
• Maintain active CPR certification.
• Annual licensure and credentialing requirements for mid-level providers.

Responsibilities

• Work within a correctional facility and respond to medical emergencies.
• Identify health problems and prescribe treatment under physician direction.
• Provide medical care using regimens approved by a physician.
• Educate inmates, patients, healthcare and correctional staff.
• Document all healthcare contacts.
• Adhere to safety, security policies and infection control practices.
• Assign tasks to team members as needed.
• Attend training and meetings as required.

POSITION SUMMARY

The APRN utilizes the medical model to meet a variety of healthcare needs with ambulatory care as their primary focus. The APRN works with a variety of healthcare professionals and security officers in a correctional environment and provides basic medical services supervised by a licensed Physician.

APRN POSITION SUMMARY

• Will be required to work within a correctional facility.
• Responds to and initiates care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
• Identifies inmate /patient health problems and prescribes treatment under direction of a physician.
• Implements medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a Physician.
• Provides education to inmate/patient, healthcare, and correctional staff.
• Documents all healthcare contacts.
• Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills. Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, andcontrolled medications.
• Assigns tasks to team members as needed.
• Adheres to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
• Attends training and meetings as required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduate of an accredited college / university with current certification / licensure as an APRN in the state of employment.
• Must hold the required annual licensure and credentialing requirements for their specific mid-level provider credentials.
• Maintain an active CPR certification.
