Job summary

Indiana Treatment Centers in Columbus, IN is seeking a compassionate Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient substance use disorder treatment program. You will provide medical and behavioral health care, support withdrawal management, and medication-assisted treatment as part of an interdisciplinary team.

The role requires independence, adaptability to changing clinical needs, and a commitment to dignified, recovery-focused care for patients with substance use and co-occurring mental health

Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited program; Doctor of Nursing Practice preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted Indiana Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  • Current national board certification applicable to the provider’s area of practice.
  • Prescriptive authority in Indiana and eligibility to obtain and maintain a DEA registration.
  • Ability to prescribe controlled substances within the provider’s legal scope of practice and organizational privileges.
  • Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to complete all required background checks, exclusion screenings, health screenings, and credentialing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive medical and behavioral health evaluations, including histories, physical examinations, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions within the NP scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the patient and interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Prescribe, administer, and manage medications in accordance with Indiana law, facility protocols, and guidelines.
  • Oversee detoxification and withdrawal-management protocols, including monitoring response and adjustments.
  • Evaluate patients for medication-assisted treatment and manage related protocols.
  • Assess and manage co-occurring psychiatric symptoms within your scope.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies and other clinical information.
  • Complete admissions, follow-up assessments, discharge documentation, and other encounters.
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies and coordinate higher levels of care.
  • Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff on care, meds, and condition changes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and leadership.
  • Educate patients and families about medications, withdrawal symptoms, and recovery options.
  • Maintain timely and accurate electronic health record documentation.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, utilization reviews, and quality initiatives.
  • Follow federal/state regulations, confidentiality requirements, and policies.

Indiana Treatment Centers, in partnership with Ascension Recovery Services, is seeking a compassionate and clinically skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our interdisciplinary treatment team in Columbus, Indiana.

This position provides medical and behavioral healthcare services within an inpatient substance use disorder treatment setting. The Nurse Practitioner will play an essential role in supporting patients through withdrawal management, stabilization, medication-assisted treatment, and ongoing recovery-focused care.

The ideal candidate is confident working independently, comfortable responding to changing clinical needs, and committed to treating individuals with substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders with dignity, compassion, and respect.

What You’ll Do
  • Conduct comprehensive medical and behavioral health evaluations, including histories, physical examinations, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the patient and interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Prescribe, administer, and manage medications in accordance with Indiana law, facility protocols, and established clinical guidelines.
  • Oversee detoxification and withdrawal-management protocols, including monitoring patient response and adjusting treatment when clinically indicated.
  • Evaluate patients for medication-assisted treatment and manage applicable medications and recovery-support protocols.
  • Assess and manage co-occurring psychiatric symptoms within the provider’s education, certification, and scope of practice.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory studies, diagnostic testing, and other clinical information.
  • Complete admission evaluations, follow-up assessments, discharge-related medical documentation, and other required patient encounters.
  • Respond to medical and psychiatric emergencies and coordinate higher levels of care when necessary.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to nursing staff regarding patient care, medication administration, and changes in condition.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, behavioral health technicians, and facility leadership.
  • Educate patients and families regarding medications, withdrawal symptoms, treatment options, health conditions, and recovery pathways.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and complete documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment-team meetings, utilization reviews, compliance activities, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Follow all applicable federal and state regulations, confidentiality requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in a shared on-call rotation and provide clinical consultation when needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or other appropriately qualified advanced practice provider.
  • At least two years of experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, psychiatric care, withdrawal management, emergency medicine, or primary care.
  • Experience working in an inpatient, residential, detoxification, or substance use disorder treatment setting.
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, withdrawal-management protocols, medication-assisted treatment, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Experience using electronic health record systems and working as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Buprenorphine prescribing experience and familiarity with evidence‑based treatment for opioid and alcohol use disorders.
Work Environment

This position operates within an inpatient substance use disorder treatment facility. The Nurse Practitioner will regularly interact with patients who may be experiencing withdrawal symptoms, acute medical concerns, psychiatric symptoms, emotional distress, or behavioral escalation.

The role may require standing, walking, bending, and assisting with patient‑care activities. The Nurse Practitioner must be able to respond promptly to urgent clinical situations and communicate effectively with patients, families, employees, emergency personnel, pharmacies, laboratories, and outside healthcare providers.
