Job summary

Thunder Orthopedics in Charlottesville, VA seeks a Nurse Practitioner to work with an orthopedic surgeon across evaluation, diagnosis, surgical assistance and postoperative care. The role emphasizes patient-centered musculoskeletal care and sports medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage postoperative patients including wound care and PT referrals.
  • Perform in-office procedures like injections and minor laceration repair.
  • Prescribe medications and rehabilitation protocols within scope; educate patients.

Position Overview:
\u003cp\u003eWe are seeking a skilled and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our practice. In this role, you will work collaboratively with a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to deliver comprehensive care across the full continuum — from initial evaluation and diagnosis through surgical assistance and postoperative follow-up. The ideal candidate brings strong clinical instincts, a patient-first approach, and a genuine interest in orthopedic and sports medicine.\u003c/p\u003e
Job Responsibilities:
\u003culu003e\u003cli\u003eConduct thorough patient history and physical examinations in the outpatient clinic setting; evaluate acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions including fractures, joint injuries, degenerative disease, and sports-related injuries.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003eOrder and interpret diagnostic imaging (X-ray, MRI, CT) and laboratory studies; develop and communicate evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003eServe as first or second surgical assist in procedures such as joint replacement, arthroscopy, fracture fixation, and soft tissue repair; apply casts, splints, and braces as clinically indicated.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003eManage postoperative patients including wound care, suture and staple removal, monitoring for complications, and coordinating physical therapy referrals and follow-up imaging.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003ePerform in-office procedures including joint and soft tissue injections (corticosteroid, PRP), aspiration, and minor laceration repair.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003ePrescribe medications, DME, and rehabilitation protocols within scope of practice; provide thorough patient education on diagnosis, treatment options, and recovery expectations.\u003c/liu003e\u003cli\u003eMaintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in the EMR system (Athena); manage prior authorizations, referrals, and coordination with ancillary care teams.\u003c/liu003e\u003c/ulu003e
Qualifications:
