The Institute of Human Virology is recruiting a NursePractitioner . The position will be based in Washington,DC providing outpatient clinical care and conducting clinicalresearch in Washington, DC with the Research Initiative inInfectious Diseases and Substance Use, a unique component of theInstitute of Human Virology at the University of Maryland School ofMedicine. The program conducts full time clinical care and researchon substance use disorder and infectious diseases, includingHepatitis C and HIV, with an interdisciplinary team of researchassistants, nurses, and physicians.

Primary Duties
  • Assesses patient health and provides diagnostic and therapeuticservices. Exercises autonomy in medical decision making.
  • Oversee the clinical research projects or clinical trials andassigned staff to ensure compliance with study protocols andoverall clinical objectives. Supports research by developingclinical research questions, conducting, and participating inresearch projects or clinical trials, and disseminating andincorporating findings into practice.
  • Serves as a patient advocate throughout the research study orclinical trial. Develops and conducts patient and family education.Performs patient care duties including education and counselingpatients in research procedures and administer treatmentprocedures.
  • Conducts complete medical history.
  • Develops, recommends, modifies, and implements policies andprocedures, and/or methods of clinical research to meet changingneeds and requirements and enforces standards.
  • Effectively executes clinical elements of research protocolconduct based on policies and procedures. Identify protocol orpatient problems, inform investigators of problems, and resolveproblems by making protocol modifications or adjustments to careplans.
  • Perform Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Health InsurancePortability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protocol development andensure compliance of research operations with protocols with allrelevant local, federal, and state regulatory and institutionalpolicies.
  • Orders, performs, supervises, and interprets biologiclaboratory and diagnostic tests, therapeutic, and correctivemeasures within the practice of area of specialization ascertified. In accordance with state guidelines, may prescribepharmacological agents and non-pharmacologic therapies duringstudies and trials.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Master's in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing

Experience: Current national certification from AANPNCB orother national certifying body (requires 18 months under a NPmentor before becoming certified) is required.

Certification/Licensure: NP license in Maryland andWashington, DC Licensed with specific patient population and/orspecialty area of research is required.

Preferred experience with patients with substance usedisorder.

Must have an interest in treatment of substance use disorder, HIV,HCV, and

Must have experience and willingness to work with diverse patientpopulations and communities, including persons who inject drugs,homeless individuals, and persons identifying as LGBTQIs.

Ability to network and interact, as well as support effectivepartnerships with key groups and individuals.

Hiring Range

Hiring Range: $126,900 - $139,000, Commensurate with educationand experience.
