Job description

Overview

The Chattanooga Heart Institute offers the most comprehensive cardiac care available in this region. Founded in 1976, we now have six offices in Tennessee and one in Georgia. Our practice is made up of 29 board-certified cardiologists and three cardiothoracic surgeons. We merged with CHI Memorial Health Care System in 2011, which is part of CommonSpirit Health. CommonSpirit has more than 700 care sites across the U.S. and is committed to building healthy communities.

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for utilizing training and skills to provide direct patient care under the supervision of a physician. This will be a nighttime position working 7 nights on and 7 nights off.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage patients in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons and critical care intensivists, providing specialty care to patients with acute and chronic problems. Function as the primary responder for all cardiac surgery needs from 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM. Remain in ICU providing continuous active management except as needed to respond to other urgent inpatient/outpatient cardiac surgery needs.
  • Triage or address consults for immediate care of elective cases.
  • Participate in inpatient rounding, writing progress notes, admission/transfer/postoperative orders, scheduling surgery, and communication necessary for continuity of care (i.e., sign out at beginning and end of shift).
  • Collect data pertinent to patients' status and perform bedside credentialed procedures.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and promote a positive work environment.
  • Perform and/or assist the supervising physician with all aspects of discharge services, including discharge planning, discharge summaries, discharge orders, and coordinating post-discharge follow-up care.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams in managing cardiac surgery patients in the ICU and other inpatient units.
  • Obtain medical histories when necessary.
  • Perform physical exams within established protocols.
  • Diagnose, treat, and monitor chronic diseases within established protocols.
  • Order diagnostic tests.
  • Prescribe or recommend medications for treatment within established protocols.
  • Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.
  • Ensure charts are signed off by the physician within 7 days.
  • Maintain patient's privacy and confidentiality.
  • Make follow-up calls to check patients' progress for any urgent outpatient matters.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited Advanced Practice Nursing Program.

License/Certification:

  • Current/valid APN license from the state licensing board.
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification

Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of previous experience as an NP in an acute care setting or equivalent RN experience.
