Job Summary

Our client is seeking - ANurse Manager – NICU provides leadership and clinical oversight for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. This position supports the Director in coordinating department activities and achieving the facility's mission, vision, values, and long-range goals.

The Nurse Manager provides clinical leadership and support to nursing staff, oversees daily operations, promotes professional development, and participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives. The Nurse Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care while ensuring compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, and organizational standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director with all department activities to ensure a coordinated effort in fulfilling departmental responsibilities and supporting the facility's long-range plan, mission, vision, and values.
  • Provide day-to-day clinical and operational leadership for the NICU.
  • Provide clinical support, guidance, and leadership to nursing staff to promote safe and effective patient care.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the NICU.
  • Ensure nursing care is based on the nursing process and evaluate the effectiveness of care on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, assignments, and daily operational needs of the unit.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration among nursing staff, physicians, ancillary departments, patients, and families.
  • Assist in coordinating the department's participation in Performance Improvement activities to support continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Monitor clinical outcomes, patient safety indicators, and quality metrics and assist with the development and implementation of improvement initiatives.
  • Promote adherence to hospital policies, procedures, clinical standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support the orientation, training, competency assessment, and ongoing professional development of nursing staff.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to improve patient care, staff engagement, workflow, and operational effectiveness.
  • Assist the Director with maintaining appropriate staffing levels and supporting efficient utilization of department resources.
  • Address patient care concerns and staff issues promptly and escalation significant concerns to the Director as appropriate.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, professional practice, and patient safety.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, committees, and other departmental activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:
Required
  • 2+ years of NICU experience required.
  • Recent acute care NICU leadership experience within the last year required.
  • Level III or Level IV NICU experience required.
  • 2+ years of management or Charge Nurse experience required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas or a valid Multi-State Compact RN License.
  • Employees practicing under an RN Compact License must obtain a Texas RN License within 60 days of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Preferred
  • Experience leading a high-volume, complex NICU environment.
  • Experience with Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of neonatal nursing standards, patient safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with staff development, competency management, and performance management.
