Job summary

Villa Healthcare is seeking a Nurse Unit Manager RN to lead day-to-day nursing activities in a Michigan facility. The role focuses on delivering high-quality care through assessment, planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the care plan.

The Nurse Unit Manager RN will supervise staff, coordinate with administration and other departments, and ensure compliance with care standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Current CPR Certification required.
• Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited program.
• Possess a current license to practice as an RN in the state.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Long-Term care and MDS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manages the nursing staff, scheduling breaks, reassigning staff, writing performance reviews and coaching as needed.
• Meets with administration, medical and nursing staff, therapy and related departments to plan care.
• Develops and maintains care standards and performs rounds to monitor patient conditions.
• Provides nursing care as necessary and ensures care notes and documents are accurate.
• Ensures work areas, patient rooms and treatment areas are clean and sanitary.
• Assists QA/QA Committee in action plans to correct deficiencies and completes required forms upon admission, transfer, or discharge.

Nurse Unit Manager RN Duties and Responsibilities

• Manages the nursing staff, scheduling breaks, reassigning employees from one area to another area as facility needs dictate, writing performance reviews, and enforcing policies with responsibility to issue Coaching and Corrective Action, as needed.
• Meets with administration, medical and nursing staff, therapy department, as well as other related departments in planning care.
• Develops and maintains care standards.
• Makes frequent rounds to note resident/patient conditions and to ensure nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards.
• Gives and receives the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
• Ensures assigned work area (i.e. nurse station, med. Cart, medication room, etc.), resident/patient care rooms and treatment areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
• Assists the Quality Assessment and Assurance Committee in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies.
• Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc.
• Interprets restorative care policies and procedures to personnel, residents, family members, etc.
• Provides direct nursing care as necessary and as department needs may dictate.
• Ensures that all restorative care notes are informative and descriptive of the treatment provided and of the resident’s response to the care.
• Documents all pertinent data as required by Medicare, Medicaid, company standards and policies.
• Completes the required forms upon admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
• Informs nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment etc.
• All other duties, as assigned.

Nurse Unit Manager RN Skills and Abilities

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Understands and follows infection control standards, policies and procedures.

Nurse Unit Manager RN Education and Experience

• Current CPR Certification required.
• Nursing Degree or diploma from an accredited College or University.
• Possess a current license to practice in the State as a Registered Nurse.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Long-Term care and MDS experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, extended sitting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, all with or without the aid of mechanical devices is required.
• Limited potential for exposure to environmental hazards. Understanding and adherence to company safety standards and protocols required.
