Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers hope and healing for youth ages 7 to 17 at the time of admission with several psychiatric diagnoses and/or developmental disabilities. Located in Portsmouth, VA, Harbor Point provides intensive, residential treatment to youth in a comfortable setting that is conducive to healing. Our facility specializes in treating children and adolescents with depression, bipolar, ADHD, and other mental health issues. We also have specific treatment programs for those with intellectual disabilities or those with self-injurious behavior. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility.

Provides assistance and support to the Director of Nursing in the management of the daily Nursing Care as well as leadership, administrative direction and supervision of staff. Provides nursing supervision and oversight, and training and scheduling of nursing staff. Ensures consistent use of the nursing and residential care process in providing quality care, implements patient safety, and acts as a resource to all nursing and direct care staff. Assists in training resident care staff. Provides assessments, nursing care and evaluation of nursing care. Collaborates with other department personnel in establishing and complying with resident care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Monitors utilization of resources to provide cost effective care. Provides primary channels of communication for physicians, therapists, caseworkers, DON, facility managers and administrators. Serves as a role model for residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.

Qualifications:
Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals, strong oral and written communication skills. Must possess knowledge of general and child/adolescent psychiatric nursing, therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management with aggressive behaviors. An individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the essential functions. Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and programs as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of resident information. Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations. On call requirements required.
Education: Graduation from an approved School of Nursing, which confers RN, AD, or Diploma in Nursing.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed by Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience working with children and adolescents in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program. Minimum of three years supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain when necessary. Ability to perform CPR and First Aid and Handle with Care. Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertip. Individual must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
