Job Summary

The Nurse Manager is responsible for the daily planning, organizing, directing, and controlling of the daily operations and clinical practice of assigned patient care areas to provide quality, individualized patient care and support of Medical Center philosophies. This position will support our interventional, addiction, and behavioral health practices. The Nurse Manager will use professional judgment and critical thinking when performing procedures and anticipate patient care needs. Performs calmly in stressful situations, in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness. The Nurse Manager will be responsible at times for direct patient care.

The Nurse Manager will lead staff to model a professional practice environment by:

  • Providing a clinically competent staff
  • Encouraging strong interdisciplinary team collaboration and communication
  • Supporting autonomy and accountability
  • Providing staff opportunities for in-service and formal education
  • Stressing the importance of continuous learning
  • Supporting a culture where concern for the patient is paramount

The Nurse Manager supports research, participates in both long- and short-term strategic planning, and assures patient advocacy. The Nurse Manager is accountable to the Practice Manager and Director of Ambulatory Nursing Practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), and a Master’s degree in nursing or related field, or a Bachelor’s paired with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). If in a Master’s program, must graduate within three years.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ nursing management experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct patient care nursing experience in acute care or ambulatory settings
  • Recent experience in PACU, conscious sedation procedures, or emergency room
  • Recent experience in Behavioral Health clinical setting
  • Strong commitment to customer service and patient/fellow staff needs
  • Experience managing an interventional procedure clinic
  • Proficiency in Clinical Nurse II functions
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care considering behavioral, physical, and physiological factors
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Knowledge of current nursing trends
  • Dedication to excellence in patient care
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Accountability and professionalism
  • Positive adaptation to change
  • Knowledge of legal aspects in clinical practice and documentation
  • Understanding of performance improvement and evidence-based practice
  • Basic computer skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in field of practice (e.g., NE-BC or NEA-BC)
  • Outpatient or inpatient Psychiatry experience

UC Davis psychiatry outpatient clinics include the Behavioral Health Center, Children's Behavioral Health Center, Addiction Clinic, and Interventional Psychiatry. We serve adults and pediatric patients with conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, and substance use disorders, providing compassionate, evidence-based care.

  • Salary Range: $153,000 - $329,000
  • Full-time, Staff: Career, 100% on-site
  • Location: Cannery Business Park, Sacramento
  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm
