Qualifications

  • Active New Jersey RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operational and clinical leadership for the detoxification program.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, PCTs).
  • Ensure compliance with NJ DOH, Joint Commission, HIPAA and other standards.
  • Oversee patient assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication administration, and documentation.
  • Implement nursing policies and best practices set by medical leadership.
  • Partner with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and behavioral health leadership.
  • Lead staff training, evaluations, competency checks, and quality initiatives.
  • Evaluate workflows, staffing models, and clinical practices for improvements.
  • Possibly maintain a limited clinical patient load based on needs.
  • Support recruitment and development of permanent nursing staff; reduce agency use.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced leader to oversee nursing operations for a medically supervised withdrawal management program. This high-impact leadership opportunity involves managing a 16-bed detoxification unit that treats patients withdrawing from alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, and other substances. For candidates with appropriate leadership experience, there is potential for an elevated title.

The role involves overseeing approximately 35-40 nursing and support staff across two detox units, including RNs, LPNs, PCTs, and agency personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day operational and clinical leadership for the detoxification program.
  • Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with NJ DOH, Joint Commission, HIPAA, and all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Oversee patient assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication administration, and clinical documentation.
  • Implement nursing policies, procedures, and best practices established by medical leadership.
  • Partner closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and behavioral health leadership.
  • Participate in staff training, performance evaluations, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate current clinical workflows, staffing models, and nursing practices, making recommendations for improvement.
  • Potentially maintain a limited clinical patient load based on operational needs and staffing assessments.
  • Support recruitment, retention, and development of permanent nursing staff while reducing agency dependence.
Requirements
  • Active New Jersey RN license.
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Prior detoxification, withdrawal management, addiction medicine, behavioral health, substance use treatment, or related acute care nursing experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous nursing leadership experience as a Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Manager, or Director preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of CIWA-Ar, COWS, medication-assisted withdrawal management, and regulatory requirements within addiction treatment settings.
  • Ability to lead through change, improve clinical quality, and build accountability within a multidisciplinary team.
