Position: Nurse/Instructional Support Assistant
Location: Downingtown, PA
Pay Rate: $28.24 per hour
Schedule: 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week Monday - Friday; 8:20 AM - 3:50 PM; 180 school days per year following Board-approved calendar

Job Summary:

Provide individualized nursing and academic assistance to students in grades K-5 within low incidence programs (Multiple Disabilities, Life Skills, and Autistic Support). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, tube feeding and general classroom support, ensuring students have full access to their education as dictated by their IEP. Nurse/Instructional Support Assistants are integral to creating an inclusive and conducive learning environment for students in the classroom.


Qualifications:

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills and/or ability necessary.

  • LPN or RN, current state license
  • Attains and maintains current CPR/First Aid certification
  • Experience working with special needs children preferred, but not required
  • Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with all federal and state background and criminal record check requirements
  • Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Nursing duties and responsibilities could include the following:

  • Administering tube feedings or feeding assistance
  • Implementing seizure protocol and treatments
  • Providing tracheostomy care, suctioning
  • Providing catherization, when indicated
  • Assisting with transferring students in/out of equipment
  • Changing diapers and assisting with toileting routines
  • Providing first aid and emergency care for accidental injuries and illnesses
  • Administering medications/procedures, as prescribed by a doctor
  • Implementing physician orders and nursing care plans, as prescribed
  • Completing electronic medical charting
  • Supporting with health screenings

Instructional support assistance duties and responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting behavior management plans
  • Providing reinforcement and replacement instruction in the classroom
  • Assisting with progress monitoring and with data collection
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Eligibility - No Waiting Period

You have 31 days from the date that you are benefit eligible to make your elections. If you do not make elections during this time, you will only be enrolled into any benefit that is provided by the District at no cost to you.

Pays 1 x your basic annual salary up to maximum of $60,000

Income Protection Benefit
Pays 60% of your basic monthly pay, up to $1,500 per month

Paid Time Off

  • 10 sick days annually
  • 3 personal days annually for full-time employees; 2 annually for part-time

Tuition Reimbursement
Pro-rated 75% of tuition if grade of ‘B’ or better is attained; limit 12 credits per year.

Work-Life Balance

As this position follows the student calendar and student day bell schedule, it is ideal for those who might have students in the district or would benefit from a fixed schedule (no nights, weekends, or overtime required). This position has all the same holidays as students, with summers off.
