Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is hiring a Nurse I in Sweetwater, TX. The nurse will review and authorize Community Attendant Services (CAS) and Day Activity/Health Services (DAHS), maintain confidentiality, and provide excellent customer service.

Job Description

Nurse I: Reviews required paperwork and documents to approve or deny Community Attendant Services (CAS) and Day Activity/Health Services (DAHS). Conducts reviews and authorizes CAS services annually. Maintains confidentiality of all incoming and outgoing information. Understands and adheres to all HHSC and CCSE policies and procedures. Provides outstanding customer service in person, over the telephone and via e-mail. Maintains a positive and productive attitude while working in a fast‑paced environment. Functions as an advocate to the participant and acts as a liaison to other providers of services.

Essential Job Functions

Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

• Reviews required paperwork and documents, completes and finalises authorization of services in an automated system, timely and accurately to approve or deny Community Attendant Services (CAS) and Day Activity/Health Services (DAHS). (60%)
• Documents information manually and into multiple automated systems. (10%)
• Verifies client information utilizing multiple automated systems TIERS, SASO, SharePoint and other automated systems. (10%)
• Serves as a resource, interprets policies, procedures, rules and regulations for clarification to provider agencies, practitioners and CCSE staff. (15%)
• Completes special assignments and/or reports. (5%)

Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications

Must have a valid Texas license as a Registered Nurse or licensed in a state that recognises reciprocity through the Nurse License Compact Act.

Knowledge Skills Abilities

Knowledge of nursing care standards, techniques and procedures. Knowledge of Community Care Services Eligibility (CCSE) programme services policies and service delivery processes. Knowledge of individuals with disabilities/geriatric and special needs. Experience in functioning as an advocate and as a resource for providers and co‑workers. Skill in organising workloads; skill in setting priorities and being able to effectively handle multiple responsibilities.

Knowledge of nursing techniques and procedures; health laws and regulations, medical diagnoses and ICD 10 coding, procedures and accepted medical treatment patterns.

Knowledge of community health and nursing care principles

Knowledge of agency and community resources

Proficient with Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft Office applications.

Ability to work independently and productively with all levels of staff

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Initial Screening Criteria

Two years working experience as an RN required.
