Saint Francis Hospital Nurse Externship program is an excellent opportunity for nursing students to gain hands‑on clinical experience while supporting our exceptional nursing teams. This role allows students to strengthen their clinical skills, enhance patient care knowledge, and prepare for a successful transition into professional nursing practice. This is a developmental program for nursing students who want to develop multiple and varied clinical skills in a multiple nursing specialties. This position requires participation in a guided training and development program aligned to the scope outlines by the State-specific Board of Nursing.

Position Details

All Nurse Extern I employees begin their externship on a Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) unit, working closely with the nursing team to deliver safe, high‑quality patient care.

Duties And Responsibilities Include

• Assisting nursing staff with daily patient care activities


• Assisting patients with hygiene, mobility, and comfort measures
