Job summary

McLeod Health is seeking a Nurse Extern for the Surgical Progressive Care Unit on-site in Florence, SC. This PRN night-shift position supports nursing staff with direct patient care and ongoing clinical learning in a fast-paced unit.

You will participate in rounds, assist with patient hygiene, and help with data collection while maintaining a safe and compassionate environment for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Completed one semester of Nursing Program.
• Basic Life Support certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Recognizes aging-related signs and assessment needs for the patient population.
• Initiates and maintains hygiene and cleanliness of patients and unit.
• Ensures safe storage and handling of medications and supplies.
• Conducts hourly rounds following Service Excellence Standards.
• Promotes comfort and safety for patients and visitors.
• Assists with nutritional and hydration interventions for patients.
• Identifies and communicates patient data to the interdisciplinary team.
• Collects and records patient data during direct care tasks.
• Demonstrates ongoing professional growth and evidence-based practice.
• Performs transportation and courier duties as directed.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

• Recognizes the normal signs (growth and development of aging) of the patient population indicated above and understands the requirements of assessment, treatment, and care of the specific age group(s).
• Initiates and maintains the hygiene/ cleanliness of the patients, the patient's environment, and the unit environment.
• Understands and recognizes appropriate storage and safety of medications (such as large volume IV's, alcohol, saline, medications in prepackaged kits).
• Using Service Excellence Standards conducts Hourly Rounds.
• Promotes and fosters an environment of comfort and safety for patients and visitors.
• Performs or assists with performing nutritional/ hydration interventions (feeding, providing fluids, H20 or snacks).
• Identifies and communicates appropriate patient data to members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Collects and records patient related data through the performance of direct care tasks.
• Demonstrates continued professional growth through setting goals and participating in Evidence Based tasks.
• Utilizes appropriate health and safety to protect both the patient and staff.
• Performs general transportation and courier duties as directed.
