Job summary

Methodist Healthcare, part of HCA Healthcare, is offering a Nurse Extern Resource Team PRN position to gain hands-on experience in the RN role while in nursing school. You will support the nursing team with essential care, learn to perform routine tasks, and contribute to safe, compassionate patient care.

You will work with supervising staff, participate in learning opportunities, and build your personal career development plan as you progress toward RN responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program in good standing.
• Completion of Nursing Fundamentals courses is required.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, aid mobility, and ensure patient comfort and hygiene.
• Perform basic nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and other procedures as competency grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate updates to the nursing team for coordinated patient care.
• Explain care plans to patients and families and provide guidance for recovery.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and adhere to infection prevention practices.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands‑on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene

• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency

• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated

• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery

• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment

• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:

• Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of Nursing required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire

• Completion of both Nursing Fundamentals courses required
