Job summary

Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN in Med Surg Oncology to join our compassionate nursing team. You will gain hands-on experience while supporting basic nursing tasks and patient comfort under supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, vital signs, wound care, documenting care, and communicating with the nursing team. Enrollment in an accredited nursing program and BCLS within 30 days are required; preferred completion of Med Surg I

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing (ADN or BSN) program.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
• Preferred candidate to have completed foundation, fundamental or Med Surg I clinical.

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience.
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team.
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for health and recovery.
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices and organizing the environment.
• Engaging in learning opportunities and partnering with supervisor to build your career development plan.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:
