Job summary

Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, LA, is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join the nursery team. You will gain hands-on experience while supporting nurses in ADLs, vital signs, and basic care tasks as you progress through your nursing program.

You will collaborate with the nursing team, document care, and help families understand care plans. Eligibility includes enrollment in an accredited nursing program and Basic Life Support within 30 days of start date.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited nursing (ADN or BSN) program.
• Preferred candidate to have completed foundation, fundamental or Med Surg I clinical.

Responsibilities

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs, checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene.
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience.
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated.
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery.
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment.
• Engaging in learning opportunities and building your personal career development plan with your supervisor or preceptor.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:
