Job summary

HCA Florida Ocala Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join the nursing team. You will gain hands-on experience in the Registered Nurse role and help deliver safe, compassionate care as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities include assisting with ADLs, basic nursing tasks, accurate documentation, and guiding patients and families through care plans. You will also maintain clean, safe areas and participate in growth opportunities with your supervisor.

Qualifications

• BLS/CPR must be obtained within 30 days of start date.
• Degree or certificate in nursing (Associate, Bachelor, RN Diploma, or Nurse Certificate).
• No travel required.
• No prior experience necessary or stated years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) and monitor vital signs.
• Perform basic nursing tasks as competency grows (wound care, catheter care, specimens).
• Document care and communicate updates with the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and recovery steps.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and follow infection prevention practices.
• Engage in learning opportunities and collaborate with supervisor to build career plan.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands‑on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma, or Certificate
