Job summary

HCA Florida Ocala Hospital is seeking a Nurse Extern PRN to join the nursing team. You will gain hands-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role and deliver safe, compassionate care while building confidence for advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound and catheter care, and stay engaged with your supervisor to map out your personal career development plan while maintaining high standards

Qualifications

• BLS/CPR certification required or to be obtained within 30 days of start.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by assisting with ADLs, checking vital signs, aiding mobility and comfort.
• Perform basic nursing tasks such as wound care, catheter care, specimen collection, and related procedures.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates with the nursing team.
• Explain care plans to patients and families and offer health guidance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas following infection prevention practices.
• Engage in learning opportunities and work with supervisor to develop your career plan.

Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you’ll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hands‑on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You’ll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients’ lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma, or Certificate
