Carondelet St. Joseph's Hospital in Tucson, AZ is seeking an Extern I to support nursing teams under the direct supervision of an RN or Clinical Manager, delivering essential patient care and ensuring a compassionate, safe experience in a Level I Trauma Center environment.

The extern will collaborate with multidisciplinary staff and uphold Relationship-Based Care while maintaining equipment and patient safety.

Qualificações

• Education: High School Diploma or GED. Currently enrolled in accredited registered nursing program and has completed their first clinical rotation.
• Licensure/Certification: Active CPR.

Responsabilidades

• Provide nursing care under the direction of an RN or Clinical Manager and ensure activities of daily living are provided.
• Measure and record vital signs; monitor intake and output.
• Measure oxygenation with pulse oximetry.
• Obtain weight using appropriate scales.
• Report pain and changes in patient condition to an RN promptly.
• Assist with bathing, oral/denture care, and shampooing.
• Observe skin integrity and assist with repositioning to prevent breakdown.
• Apply/remove anti-embolism stockings and sequential compression devices.
• Provide care as directed by the RN per the SKIN bundle; implement fall prevention.

Job Summary

The Extern I completes work in accordance with standards of the specific environment under the direct supervision of the RN or Clinical Manager. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to provide the very best care for our patients in our advanced facilities that include a primary stroke center. The Extern I is required to provide an excellent patient experience consistent with Relationship-Based Care. Follows established policy and procedures as directed. Performs all job duties in a safe manner with respect to safety and to self and others. Equipment and supplies maintained, monitored, and malfunctions reported to manager. Uses time management and flexibility in organizing and prioritizing workload to provide optimal service to the department and network. Accountable for performing and providing quality patient care in the specific environment. Effectively performs direct patient care tasks to assist licensed personnel. Recognize and respect cultural and spiritual differences and demonstrate culturally competent care.

Responsibilities

• Provide specific nursing care under the direction of an RN or Clinical Manager and ensure that activities of daily living are provided; including hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
• Measure and record vital signs. Monitor and record intake and output measurement.
• Measure oxygenation with pulse oximetry.
• Obtain weight using standing, sling, bed, or chair scale.
• Report patient complaints of pain.
• Report observations of changes in patient’s conditions such as vital signs and level of consciousness to an RN in a timely manner.
• Perform or assist with bathing, oral/denture care and shampooing.
• Observe for changes in skin integrity and ensure that patients receive adequate position changes to prevent skin breakdown.
• Measure for, apply, and remove anti-embolism stockings.
• Apply and remove sequential-compression devices.
• Apply and remove Buck’s traction after initial application by RN or PT.
• Provide care, as directed by the RN according to the SKIN bundle.
• Implement fall prevention interventions as directed by the RN.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

• Education:High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.). Currently enrolled in accredited registered nursing program and has completed their first clinical rotation.
• Licensure/Certification: Active CPR

Preferred Requirements

• Experience:
  • Knowledge of hospital environment desired.
  • Previous hospital and/or health care related experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work variable shifts, holidays and/or weekends.
  • Must be able to perform required duties, including lifting and transferring, using proper body mechanics.
  • Basic computer skills
