Piedmont Augusta Hospital in Augusta, GA is offering a Nurse Extern program beginning December 14, 2026. Externs will work under an RN to gain clinical experience and learn the role of a Patient Care Tech, including time management and direct patient care during shifts.

Externs must work a minimum of two twelve-hour shifts per month (one PCT shift prior to one nurse extern shift each month). Requires enrollment in an accredited nursing program and completion of the first Med/Surg rotation; BCLS

Qualifications

• Student enrolled in an accredited nursing program with first Med/Surg rotation completed.
• No prior work experience required.
• BCLS certification is required and CI available upon hire; additional certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RNs supervision for patients from birth through the lifecycle.
• Learn and perform treatments, procedures, and use equipment appropriate to a pre-licensure nurse.

Responsibilities

The Nurse Extern, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, provides direct patient care to patients from birth through the lifecycle. This care includes utilizing treatments, procedures and equipment appropriate to the pre-licensure nurse in the clinical setting per hospital policy.

Education

• A student currently enrolled in and progressing through an accredited nursing program and successfully completed the first Med/Surg rotation. Required
