Job Details

With a commitment to patient and family-centered care, the Nurse Extern 1 works collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide safety, companionship, and supportive care for patients requiring additional monitoring or assistance. The role promotes quality patient care, comfort, and a safe environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Interacting with co-workers, visitors, and staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  2. Recognizing patients and their families or designated care partners to provide safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on respect for personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs.
  3. Communicating with and supporting the interprofessional team, patients, families, and care partners.
  4. Providing one-to-one direct observation for patient safety.
  5. Assisting patients with designated care activities.
  6. Reporting changes in patient condition or behavior to the appropriate staff.
  7. Completing all required reports and documentation.

This position involves serving a diverse age population, from pediatric to frail elderly, demonstrating understanding of their developmental and functional needs.

Job Description

Education: Completion of one year at an accredited Nursing school.

Experience: Previous related experience preferred.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements: CPR certification, completion of Patient/Sitter Companion Program, and/or De-Escalation class preferred.

Additional Information: Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, ability to de-escalate agitated patients while preserving dignity, and knowledge of Standard Precautions are required. Previous clinical experience is preferred.
