NURSE EXTERN II, FH - 2NT - TRAUMA/ACS PROGRESSIVE

FTE: 0.001

Shift: Shift 1

Job Summary:

Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with activities of daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of the assigned unit and the RN on duty during each shift. Other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations from an accredited nursing school, or one medical-surgical rotation plus relevant work experience. One clinical rotation must have included medication administration.
• Experience of six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred.

Educational Requirements:

Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing or a graduate waiting to retake the NCLEX exam.

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, and follow patient care directions.
• Interpersonal skills to interact courteously with patients, visitors, and physicians.
• Ability to perform basic patient care tasks with attention to detail.
• Physical ability to walk, stand, lift, and position patients as required.

Licensure:

State of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification preferred; otherwise, documentation of completion of basic nursing courses is required. BLS certification from AHA or equivalent required within 90 days of hire.
