Summary Description

The Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a member of the patient care services team responsible for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.

The NE II works under the supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the NE II's skills and abilities. The NE II reports any deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.

Specific patient care tasks may vary widely across units or service lines, depending on the patient population. The Nurse Extern II is assigned to an experienced RN each shift and assists with providing patient care such as ADLs, vitals, ambulation, and other duties within the scope of a patient care tech or equivalent. The RN instructs and mentors the NE II and provides ongoing feedback.

Applicants can apply starting 6 months before graduation from an accredited nursing program and must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
