Job summary

Advocate Health in Georgia is seeking a Nurse Extern to support the Registered Nurse (RN) in delivering safe, age-appropriate patient care under supervision. You will assist with daily living activities, mobility, vital signs, and documentation in the EMR while developing core nursing competencies under structured onboarding.

Positions require enrollment in an accredited nursing program, completion of foundational coursework, and a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required and good academic standing in an accredited nursing program.
• Active enrollment in an accredited nursing program with GPA 2.5+ required.
• Must have completed foundational nursing coursework before onboarding.
• Documentation and transcripts may be requested for onboarding verification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with activities of daily living under RN supervision.
• Support mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices per RN direction.
• Record routine vital signs and intake/output; report abnormalities to RN.
• Assist with nutrition and hydration and monitor diet tolerance.
• Maintain clean, safe patient environment and infection control standards.
• Observe changes in patient condition and report to RN promptly.
• Educate patients and families on unit routines and safety measures.
• Provide clerical support and help manage unit communications.
• Manage supplies and equipment; ensure cleanliness and readiness.
• Perform competency-based skills such as ECGs and venipuncture under RN supervision.
