Job summary

SUMMARY

Assists the Professional Nurse and the Practical Nurse with the daily routine and functions of the Nursing Units by the completion of both indirect and direct patient care activities.

JOB DUTIES

• Gives patient care under the supervision of Professional Nurse and/or LPN, i.e. admission, transfer, and discharge.
• Capable of performing procedures as per Nursing Extern Skill Sheet.
• Observation and documentation by nurse reveals care given and is provided in a timely manner.
• Assists Professional Nurse or LPN in complicated treatment procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and implements policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments - including safety awareness/Infection Control.
• Frequently makes rounds and performs errands if asked.
• Observation reveals frequent rounds of units.
• Answers call lights and follows through with patient’s needs.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene and ADL.
• Provides for patient comfort and safety.
• Assists in admitting, discharging and transferring patient.
• Utilizes and maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to provide age appropriate care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

• High School diploma or equivalent.
