Job summary

Grand Strand Medical Center, part of HCA Healthcare, is seeking a Nurse Extern FP to join our nursing team in Myrtle Beach. You will gain hands-on experience exploring the full RN role while delivering safe, compassionate care to patients and families.

You will assist with ADLs, vital signs, wound care, documentation, and care plan communication, with mentorship to advance your nursing skills.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of start date.
• Active enrollment in an accredited RN nursing program.
• Fundamentals of Nursing completed.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential care for patients by assisting with ADLs, vitals, mobility, and hygiene.
• Perform basic nursing tasks and implement care as competency grows.
• Document care accurately and communicate timely updates to the nursing team.
• Help patients and families understand care plans and recovery steps.
• Maintain clean, safe patient areas and adhere to infection prevention practices.
• Engage in learning opportunities and collaborate with supervisor to build career plan.

Job Summary and Qualifications

As a Nurse Extern, you'll be a valued part of the nursing team, gaining hand-on experience as you explore the full scope of the Registered Nurse role. You'll help deliver safe, compassionate care that improves patients' lives while building the skills and confidence to take on more advanced responsibilities as you progress through your nursing program.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing essential care for patients by helping with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living), checking vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring comfort and hygiene
• Performing nursing tasks like wound care, catheter care, collecting specimens, and other basic procedures as you gain experience and grow in your competency
• Documenting care accurately and communicating timely updates with the nursing team to keep patient care seamless and coordinated
• Helping patients and families understand their care plans and offering guidance for their health and recovery
• Keeping patient areas clean and safe by following infection prevention practices, managing equipment, and maintaining an organized environment
• Championing your growth and enhancing patient care by engaging in learning opportunities, sharing ideas to improve care, and partnering with your supervisor or preceptor to build your personal career development plan

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate Degree in nursing, or Bachelors Degree of Nursing in progress
• Enrolled in an accredited RN Nursing Program
• Completed Fundamentals of Nursing
