UPMC Cole is hiring for a full-time Nurse Educator to join our team!
This position is on day shift with variable hours. No weekends or holidays are required. Experience in more than one adult specialty is preferred.
Purpose:
The Nurse Educator, a professional registered nurse, has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for delivering nursing education. The main objectives are orientation, continuing education, and ongoing support for the nursing staff. The Nurse Educator must demonstrate the knowledge and educational skills necessary to assess, plan, and provide the required educational programs.
Responsibilities:
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building teams and relationships through mentoring and modeling positive communication. Acknowledges contributions of others; listens first, creates transparency, confronts reality, and clarifies expectations. Conveys information clearly through various media to engage and inform audiences. Performs related duties as required.
- Participates in department or practice-specific quality improvement efforts. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement and utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support clinical care improvements. Identifies research issues or articles relevant to clinical specialties or areas of interest.
- Receives feedback constructively. Serves as a mentor for new staff and preceptors. Acts as a resource/consultant for patients, nursing staff, and other disciplines. Participates in Performance Improvement projects and self-review. Seeks to improve knowledge, skills, and performance based on feedback or self-identified needs. Demonstrates initiative, works independently, and prioritizes to meet organizational goals. Maintains certifications and participates in professional and community organizations. Develops coaching and feedback skills.
- Facilitates orientation and continuing education programs. Uses the nursing process to teach staff patient care management, including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, teaching, and discharge planning. Leads development of nursing standards and policies. Identifies and responds to staff learning needs. Develops, implements, and evaluates educational programs based on needs and resources. Promotes patient education and staff initiatives to improve care. Ensures safety policies are followed.
- Awareness of how behavior impacts department and organization functioning. Takes a leadership role in hospital-wide projects. Handles complex assignments and views problems as challenges. Applies creative strategies in problem-solving. Facilitates student experiences as appropriate.
- Assists in verifying knowledge, skills, and attitudes of staff. Ensures staff training addresses gaps. Plans, implements, and verifies training to ensure all staff meet competency requirements.
