Job summary

South Texas Health System seeks an Educator to support ongoing staff and patient education, promoting the acquisition of new knowledge and skills. The role emphasizes orientation, inservices, coaching, and research-informed education in a dynamic healthcare environment.

The Educator will collaborate with clinical teams to advance nursing practice, ensure compliance, and foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement across departments.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate commitment to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current Texas RN licensure.
• BSN preferred; if not BSN, must enroll in BSN and obtain degree within 24 months.
• Must have and maintain current BLS; ACLS/PALS to be obtained within specified timeframes.
• Instructor Trainer certifications for BLS, ACLS and PALS within 2 years of employment.

Job description

Responsibilities

The primary role of the Educators is to support the learning needs of staff and patients by providing opportunities for the acquisition of new knowledge, skills and behaviors in view of advancing technologies, changing health care delivery systems, expanding staff roles, evidence base practice and research. These opportunities include but are not limited to orientation, continuing education, formal and informal inservices, coaching and consulting. Furthermore, the education department believes that South Texas Health System employee’s continuing education is a major asset in employee recruitment and retention.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.

2. Bachelors in Nursing with 2 to 3 yrs. experience or Master’s preferred.

3. If not currently a BSN nurse must be enrolled in a BSN program and obtain the degree within 24 months of hire. If doing a Bridge program A.D.N to MSN obtain within 24 months.

4. Must have and maintain current BLS. If not already certified in ACLS, and PALS must obtain within 6 months of hire. Must acquire Instructor Trainer Certifications for BLS, ACLS and PALS within 2 years of employment. Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program. For Behavioral Health, the educator only needs the BLS instructor certification within 24 months.

5. CPI within 24 months for Behavioral Health only.

BCLS/CPR
Must be current upon hire and thereafter

ACLS
If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience – obtain within 12 months of hire;

nurse with over a year of experience – obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

PALS

or

ENPC
If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience – obtain within 12 months of hire;

nurse with over a year of experience – obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

BLSI
Obtain within 24 months of hire

ACLSI
Obtain within 24 months of hire

PALSI
Obtain within 24 months of hire
