Nurse Educator (RN) - Pediatric/PICU (UPMC Harrisburg)

The Nurse Educator will oversee education opportunities for the Pediatric department at UPMC Harrisburg.

This department includes a PICU that will also be supported by this position.

Position Details:

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, salaried position
  • Travel within Central PA region
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, primarily dayshift; no holidays and minimal weekends, with advanced planning for staff education, orientation, and onboarding

Purpose: The Nurse Educator, a registered nurse, is responsible for delivering nursing education, including orientation, continuing education, and ongoing staff support. The role requires assessing, planning, and providing educational programs as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships internally and externally, mentoring and modeling effective communication, building trust, and fostering transparency. Convey information clearly to engage the audience and facilitate understanding.
  • Participate in quality improvement efforts, utilizing research and evidence-based practice to enhance clinical care. Identify opportunities for improvement and support implementation.
  • Receive and incorporate feedback constructively. Mentor new staff and preceptors, serve as a resource for patients and staff, and participate in performance improvement projects. Pursue professional development and certifications, and engage with professional organizations.
  • Facilitate orientation and continuing education programs, teaching staff how to manage patient care using the nursing process. Develop standards, policies, and educational materials based on clinical needs and organizational resources. Promote patient education and staff initiatives for improved care.
  • Lead major hospital projects, take responsibility for complex assignments, and apply creative problem-solving strategies. Facilitate student experiences as appropriate.
  • Assist in verifying competencies of direct care staff, ensuring training addresses knowledge and skill gaps, and that all staff meet required competencies.
